Why:
Why we do it:
We love the art and challenge of building a small home that will endure the test of time, feel bigger than it is, look and feel great, all without breaking the bank. We fully engage in every step in the process of bringing a vision to life. From early concepts and playing with ideas, to breaking ground, to the days when the walls go up or the roof goes on, to the last bit of caulk and final drop of paint: we're on your team and loving what we do. We put ourselves into these buildings, and are happy to help you put yourself into yours too.
Why you should hire us:
Integrity:
We build as a reflection of our approach to life: Integrity wins out in time. We’re in this for the long haul and that means doing the little things, the hidden and invisible things, that will matter in the long run, not because you’ll see or ever even know, but because it’s the right thing to do. Whether it’s one extra pass of caulking to infill tiny gaps, taking an extra moment to make sure everything is square, plumb, and true, or adding that extra layer of waterproofing just to be safe, we believe the only option is to do it right.
Flexibility
For most of our clients, we're doing their first build with them, which means that as the building takes shape they may want to make adjustments. Our goal is to build to your vision, not just make the money and get out, so we’re ready to make those little changes that are going to leave you satisfied with your project in the years ahead. When we hand you the keys we're looking to hear, "that's just what I wanted."
Communication
Success for us isn’t just a solid, well built home, it’s a happy owner. The bridge between those two is good communication. Talking through what’s happening, when, and why, brings you into the project however deep you want to go. Getting the right options in front of you at the right time with the right amount of information is as vital a part of the process as quality materials and honest labor. This is a journey we’re on together.
Specialists
Building small homes is different than what most construction companies specialize in but it’s what we love. Small homes are a unique opportunity to bring the personality and vision of the owners to life and that makes it exactly where we want to be and what we want to be doing. We also feel good building DADU's because we believe it’s the best way to densify the city while retaining its charm.
We enjoy the art of getting the most out of every square foot.
It’s also about the people. It's far more satisfying to build for owners we have a chance to get to know, to understand, to share in the process, and see how our work translates into a positive impact in their life.
It just feels right to build responsible, efficient, sustainable housing.
Who We Are:
From building his first lean-to structures as a kid, to forts, to furniture, Eric has always been a builder, though his path to building professionally has been a meandering one. After finishing his engineering degree, Eric worked as a structural engineer for 10 years designing a great variety of buildings in and around Seattle. Then his search for broader life experience resulted in three years traveling the world, working four jobs in three countries on two continents. Upon his return to Seattle he operated an insightful travel business and published his book about creating life changing experiences through travel. Whether on the road (building traditional Spanish homes in Andalucía) or in the office (rebuilding and furnishing the office space), he always found a way to keep building. His mission is to blend his accumulated knowledge of structures, small business, and creating transformational experiences with his passion of building to create not just great homes, but great experiences for his clients. The goal is a responsible business that contributes to the quality of life for the owners, the builders, and the community.
